SUREAL at the Conference on Nature and the Macroeconomy

Hosted by SUREAL, affiliated with the University of Zurich Department of Finance, 10–11 August 2026 in Santiago, Chile

The Sustainable and Resilient Economy AI Lab (sureal.ai) is an interdisciplinary research initiative affiliated with our UZH Department of Finance. It focuses on the use of advanced artificial intelligence methods to better understand the interactions between the economy, climate, and nature, and to support evidence-based decision-making in finance and policy.

Combining academic excellence with a strong applied perspective, SUREAL develops data-driven tools and models that help stakeholders identify and manage climate- and nature-related risks while supporting a transition to a more sustainable and resilient economy.

Conference overview

In collaboration with international partners, SUREAL is involved in the organization of the Conference on “Nature and the Macroeconomy”.

The conference addresses how the degradation of nature interacts with macroeconomic dynamics, financial stability, and the design of monetary, fiscal, and prudential policy. It brings together researchers working on the macroeconomic and financial implications of pressures on natural capital, such as land-use change, resource extraction, and marine ecosystem degradation, as well as their interactions with climate change and transition policies.
