Stefano Battiston to leave the UZH Department of Finance

Research at the intersection of sustainable finance, financial networks and systemic risk

After more than a decade at the University of Zurich, Stefano Battiston will leave the Department of Finance. Since joining UZH as an SNSF Professor in 2013, he has conducted research at the intersection of sustainable finance, financial networks and systemic risk.

Battiston's research has focused on the resilience of financial systems, climate-related financial risks and the role of finance in supporting the transition to a sustainable economy. He also served as a Lead Author of the Finance and Investment chapter of the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report, contributing to the assessment of the role of finance in climate change mitigation. His work has been published in leading journals including Science, Nature Climate Change, Nature Communications, Management Science and PNAS.

At UZH, Battiston held a part-time professorship alongside his position as Professor of Economics at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. From August 2026 onwards, he will devote his full attention to his role in Venice.

The Department of Finance thanks Stefano Battiston for his contributions to research, teaching and the academic community at UZH and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his academic career.
