Organized by the Department of Finance at the University of Zurich and Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford
The Department of Finance at the University of Zurich and Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford are delighted about the first successful 1st Zurich–Oxford Doctoral Symposium on Real Estate Markets.
This symposium aimed to bring together outstanding PhD students working on topics related to Real Estate Markets (including real estate finance, urban economics, and mortgage markets) for an opportunity to share their research and learn from each other in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Keynote
In addition to presentations by job applicants, the workshop featured a keynote session on “Navigating the Academic Job Market” by Arpit Gupta, New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business.
Special mentions
The bank of mom and dad: intergenerational transfers and macroprudential regulation
"This paper shows how parents’ housing wealth helps their children buy their first home, specifically by funding the down payment. These transfers let first-time buyers purchase more expensive homes and take on more debt, and they can weaken the impact of mortgage rules that are meant to limit borrowing.”
-Nils Landén Mammos, Stockholm University, Sweden
Selling Fast or Selling Junk: Is iBuying Sustainable?
"My paper examines why algorithmic pricing firms in real estate struggle with profitability due to asymmetric information. I propose a contingent revenue-sharing contract and demonstrate how large language models can extract additional information on home quality from unstructured text. Together, these approaches reduce adverse selection and improve profitability."
- So Hye Yoon, Princeton University, USA
