Tri-City Bridge Workshop on Empirical Research in Finance 2025

Fifth annual workshop for young finance researchers, organized by PhD Candidates of our Department

The Tri-City Bridge Workshop is a PhD-driven initiative fostering collaboration among Europe’s leading financial research institutions.

This event offers young researchers in empirical finance the opportunity to present their latest work to esteemed academics. It fosters a collaborative and supportive environment where junior researchers and senior scholars can exchange ideas, discuss economic challenges, and explore research directions that can lead to significant contributions in finance.

This workshop is organized by our PhD Candidates Jason Blunier, Olimpia CarradoriThea Kolasa, and Zhixi Wei of the Department of Finance with the support of the SFI.

Date: Thursday, 3 April 2025
Time: 8:30 - 18:00
Location: Rämistrasse 71 (University of Zurich), KOL-G-217

A hallmark of the Tri-City Bridge Workshop is its mentorship model, where leading scholars provide detailed feedback on PhD presentations, offering invaluable guidance to early-career researchers. Thus, we are excited to have the commitment from senior researchers such as Maria Loumioti (UT Dallas), Arna Olafsson (Copenhagen Business School), Thomas Maurer (University of Hong Kong), Martin Schmalz (Oxford), Michele Pelli (Central Bank of Ireland), Michael Weber (University of Chicago), and Steven Ongena (University of Zurich) will mentor PhD students, serving as mentors and discussants for selected papers. We are thrilled to feature Professor Itzhak Ben-David (Ohio State University and NBER) as the keynote speaker, presenting "From Anecdotes to Insights: Streamlining the Research Idea Generation Process.”

While specifically focusing on empirical research in finance, the workshop reflects the growing importance of data-driven approaches in financial research. Within this scope, the Workshop will include papers focusing on banking, corporate finance, and sustainable finance.
