Congratulations to Prof. Zacharias Sautner and his co-authors

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Zacharias Sautner, together with his co-authors Alexander Heiss  and Prof. Thomas Schmid, has received the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Outstanding Research Award 2026 for their paper "Powering AI: How Do Data Centers Affect Renewable Energy Investment?"

Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

PRI is a UN-supported organization promoting sustainable investing, that gives out awards both to investment firms for responsible investment practices and to academics for outstanding research in the field.

"Powering AI: How Do Data Centers Affect Renewable Energy Investment?"

The paper explores how the growing electricity demand from AI-driven data centers is shaping energy investments. The findings show that data center expansion is associated with increased investment in renewable energy and battery storage, which is supported by power purchase agreements and the net-zero commitments of major technology companies.

PRI Outstanding Research Award 2026

The award includes a £5,000 prize and the opportunity to present the research at PRI in Person 2026 in Amsterdam, a leading global event for responsible investment. More than 1,500 leaders and practitioners from the global investment community are expected to attend, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss key issues shaping the future of responsible investment.
